Oakland Wiki Youth Program Instructor

posted Dec 23, 2012, 11:46 AM by Alfred Twu
The Oakland Wiki, a hyperlocal wiki modeled after the beloved Davis Wiki recently proposed a collaboration with Youth Uprising, and were pleasantly surprised by an offer of an Oakland Wiki instructor position. None of their current volunteers are available to take the position. Are you?

You would lead 10-15 Youth Uprising youths (ages 18-24) who are participating in the Excel Youth Uprising program, a 1-yr. intensive fellowship. They would be working on the wiki 20 hours/week (4 hours/day) and going to school full time. You would be their instructor and supervisor, responsible for creating a curriculum and motivating students to create articles on local history, events and resources. Oakland Wiki volunteers will provide you with editor training and a cohesive community of active and creative volunteers (that work out of Sudo Room, a downtown Oakland creative and community hackerspace, every Thursday at 7pm).

The pay is $10-12/hour for 20 hours/week. Work starts in January for a 6-month contract, with the possibility of extending it to a year.
